Welcome to The Wonder Collective, where we support neurodivergent and sensitive children through parent guidance, tutoring, homeschool support, and practical resources. Based in Wollongong NSW, our focus is on connection, regulation, strengths-based learning, and gentle support that bridges home, school, and therapy.

About The Wonder Collective

The Wonder Collective was created for children who don’t quite fit the mould, and for the families who are carrying the weight of trying to make everything work.

At its heart, The Wonder Collective is about reminding kids of their potential and seeing the wonder within themselves. It’s about recognising that when a child feels safe, understood, and capable, learning follows. We work with all children, but particularly neurodivergent, sensitive, gifted, and twice-exceptional children who often need something more relational, more flexible, and more attuned than traditional models of support.

Our work spans personalised tutoring, homeschool support, parent collaboration, and school advocacy. Sessions are practical and purposeful; building academic foundations, executive functioning skills, confidence, coordination, and emotional regulation, always through a strengths-based, child-centred lens. We don’t just look at what skills are "behind", we look at what’s possible.

The Wonder Collective was founded by Kate Shield, an educator of 12 years with a deep commitment to trauma-informed practice and supporting neurodivergent children. Her passion began early in her career and is now woven into her life as a mum to four beautifully neurodivergent children of her own. Kate's approach is relational, practical, and deeply grounded in the belief that every child has innate strengths worth noticing and building upon.

At The Wonder Collective, learning isn’t rushed, it’s nurtured. And from that place, real growth begins.

Mission

Empowering All Children

At The Wonder Collective, support starts with really getting to know each child; who they are, how they learn, and what they need to feel safe and capable. Learning is never one-size-fits-all, so sessions are shaped around the child, their strengths and their challenges, with a focus on building confidence as much as skills.

The Wonder Collective works closely with parents, schools, and therapists to keep everyone aligned, reducing overwhelm and creating continuity between home, school, and therapy. Along the way, children are supported to develop skills like focus, task initiation, and emotional regulation, while reconnecting with curiosity, joy, and a sense of “I can do this” in their learning journey.

Fostering Strengths-Based Learning

Strengths-based learning at The Wonder Collective begins with noticing what a child can do, not what they struggle with. Every child brings curiosity, creativity, persistence, and insight  sometimes these strengths just need the right TLC to shine. Sessions are designed to build from what feels safe and successful, using a child’s interests and natural abilities as the starting point for learning.

By leading with strengths, children experience learning as something they can succeed in, rather than something to fear. Confidence grows, engagement deepens, and challenges can be approached with more flexibility and resilience. Over time, skills like focus, problem-solving, and independence develop naturally, supported by trust, connection, and a genuine belief in each child’s capacity to learn in their own way.
